History of The Peoria Heights Community Band
In 1986, Jim Park, a local musician, retired school band director, and choir and handbell director at 3 churches decided to start a church band at Peoria Heights Congregational Church. It started with 13 members. The band first played at the church for an ice cream social and later played for several events in the Heights and the high school homecomings. As the band grew, it started playing concerts at retirement and nursing homes through the fall, winter and spring, and gave outdoor concerts in the summer at Tower Park in
Peoria Heights. Jim Park passed away in June of 2009. Since then, the band has been using several different Guest Conductors rotating from month to month, which has been very successful. The band continues the same schedule performing throughout the year at retirement and nursing homes as well as the summer Tower Park Concerts. The band continues to grow with about 40 to 45 members, and always welcomes new members of all ages, even if they haven’t played for years. All Practices and Concerts are on Tuesday evenings at 7 PM. Practice is at Peoria Heights Congregational Church in Peoria Heights. Please check the Band Schedule for more details.
